Knowing Vs. Emotional Attraction to Androids

Pg. 95 "knowing intellectually...anyhow." (Phillip K. Dick)

The progress of technology, in Philip K. Dick's novel, has acquired such realistic features that now the humans are being deceived by their emotions into feeling attached. From the perspective of a Dave Holden, living in a planet where population is lacking, there could be a very small amount of people to bond with and carry on life with. On the contrary, humans in the new colony on Mars may have a large amount of population. Just as Rick Deckard owns an electric sheep at the top of his apartment, since he cannot afford a real animal, so too does Dave Holden want to have some sort of friendship with an android. Dave Holden is well aware that the androids do not hold an emotional attachment toward him such as which a human would.
