Luba Touched by Rick’s Present

Page 133

The question that Philip K. Dick raises is, are robots gaining a different perspective of what it means to exist? Or to be alive? Since Rick acknowledges that Luba is going to die soon and she knows it, Luba compares the differences between humans and androids. It is not possible to know if her action of saying "It's very nice of you" to Rick happened because she is programmed to say thank you or something similar when something is given to her (133 Dick). If Luba Luft had lived longer, would there have been more discoveries made by her from an android's perspective?
